Polish Music

Poland is a country steeped in rich culture ad tradition that can be seen in the various forms of art that it patronizes, and predominant among them is music. The history of Polish music dates back to the 13th century. The 16th century witnessed major innovations in the field of music, while the 17th and 18th centuries saw the evolution and the development of the baroque form of music.

The traditional folk music developed as part of the national revival wave, in the 19th century. The period saw the suppression of the folk traditions in music by the communist regime and its replacement by the state favored music, which was the amalgamation of different Polish styles. In Poland, dance music became popular due to artists such as Chopin, who spread it across Europe. These styles were called mazurka and polonaise, essential elements of Polish music.

The importance given to music in Poland can be seen in the music festivals organized regularly. The important ones among these are the Kazimierz Festival, the Mozart Festival, and the Bogatynia?s International Music Festival.

Poland has been receptive to different genres of music, such as rock, metal, and jazz, as well as electronic and new wave music. Pop music did not make much of an impact, unlike rock and hip-hop. The typical Polish music is poetry put to tune and disco polo. In addition to these, Vader, Behemoth, Yattering, Graveland, and Dissenter have contributed to the realm of music.

The Polish people are tolerant and very accommodating. They have allowed even their music to be influenced by foreign contributions. The synchronizing of the various arts has led to a unique combination of melody and soul. The music is like no other and soothing to listen to. Poland is a treasure-chest of art and culture.

Take Advantage Of The Economic Downturn - To Become Your Own Boss!

It is that phase in the economic cycle when people do a reality check. Uncertainty looms ahead, and managements drive themselves crazy figuring out where the next big check is going to come from to keep the wheels of the organization running. Cowering in our own cubicle or workbench, we never know when they will hand us our proverbial pink slip and bid us goodbye.

There are two alternatives to handle this economic condition. The first is the tried and tested. Dignity in one pocket and resume in the other, we knock at the doors of the other companies whose outward facade conveys an impression of everything being hunky-dory inside. And get rejected by the people who aren't sure when they themselves will get the boot.

Let us consider this alternative from a different angle. When we were born, we used to be cleaned and washed, fed and clothed and generally taken care of. We used to look up to somebody to do all that for us. Haven't we continued with the same pattern, of looking up to somebody, of expecting a job to become available that we can perform, which will feed us and clothe us and generally fulfill our material needs? Isn't it time we grew up?

As kids, we were given an extra dollop of ice-cream for being good. Remember the visits of the Santa Claus every year? Now we expect somebody to pat our ego and nurse our pride with lofty-sounding designations and nifty little perks - the corner office, that special parking space, the vacation with the family, the topped-up bonus and that ESOP handout, the promotion that gives us the opportunity to look down upon people who once were peers, thank you. And when these goodies are not forthcoming, we sulk and we pout and we go look for another Santa Claus. Tell me really, have we grown up at all?

And so let us see what the second alternative looks like. Here it is!

Which is to use the season of doom and economic gloom to go inward and realize that this actually is an opportunity to get out of the rat race once and for all and do our own thing. Set up our own shop. Be our own boss. Hoist our own flag. I am running out of symbolism, but you get the idea.

Returning again to the kid analogy, remember the things that we enjoyed doing when we were young and not yet entered the rat race, the things that thrilled us the most? When we did what we did because we liked doing what we were doing, and not because we had to do what we ended up doing because that was what the boss wanted us to do. Or else. There is money to be made, you know, in doing things that we enjoy and are passionate about. It is only a question of figuring out how. Let me also tell you, that the figuring out how happens only during times of economic recession, and not when the going is good and everybody is smiling and doing the rumba.

"Realize your own potential" becomes a cliche when the HR boys and girls use it while dangling the golden cage before us. It becomes a mantra when we use it to really understand how far we can go when we are on our own. Have we forgotten life outside the cage? Have we forgotten - or worse, never ever known? - what it means to be free and to do our own thing? To set our own goals, to make our own targets, and to soar as high as our wings and our ambitions can take us?

Or have we become rather addicted to our inner child's needs being taken care of by that neatly-suited-booted HR manager and his / her team of cohorts and headhunters and detectives, spying on every move we make outside the office and trying to figure out what must be going on in our mind, so that we can be, uh, appropriately manipulated?

Or have we rather come to enjoy the performance reviews where the senior takes malicious pleasure in nitpicking the omissions and commissions that we may or may not have indulged in throughout the year? Like the stern teacher handing over the grades in class. The armpits used to sweat the same way then too, didn't they?

Or have we rather come to relish the politics and the backbiting and the gossip and the bitching in the office and the workplace? The latest news about this affair and that, the latest news on who is in favor and who has fallen out of favor, the devil who is badmouthing about us behind the back ... oh, won't we miss them all?

Let's step out of the world we have immersed ourselves in and become comfortable in. And step into the world of freedom. Let's find the vocation that we enjoy the most. Let's learn the right skills that are needed to survive and thrive in the market. And take the plunge with faith and belief in self. Success and prosperity are waiting to be ours, if only we reach out for them. Let us be brave for a change. Let's reach out! Now!

Music Composition's Secrets

What is music composition mean to you?

There are many people making a living as a music composer by writing music which put a lot of stress on them. Some music composers will keep on finding out what kind of music is popular right now and are trying to get a hook in it.

I found out ways to go as a music composer:

1. Listening to a lot of songs and trying to compose the similar genre music. By listening to songs, reading up and feeling what type of music will be popular in the near future.

2. Be yourself and compose the music you like yourself in and hope that others who listen to it will feel the same too.
I feel satisfied and glad that I am inspired enough to be a music composer and I feel the process of composing music involve me to go as far as I can and allowing me to understand myself better.

Composing music can be a very worthwhile bustle. The level of originality depends on the way in how you compose your music. It helps the brains creative parts and calculating parts to be activated together.

Let me share some tips from my own music composition experience:

1. Get your instrument with you, start to sing or hum without any high expectation in creating something exceptional. Allow yourself to wander away from your brains calculating parts, with the imagination and creativity you will create brilliant music.

2. Limit your creativity by using a chord progression.

3. Record yourself when you are playing around with your instruments and humming. Listen to what you have recorded and make any adjustment. This will help you to make much more brilliant music.

Sometimes you can feel that you are not able to compose music like the other composer. Different composers have his/her own way of composition. So never follow them, be in your own.

The Earth is a Musical Instrument

In 1996, geophysicist Frank Scherbaum teamed up with composer Wolfgang Loos to release "Inner Earth: a seismosonic symphony" (Traumton Records), a recording of natural seismic signals from the earth that Loos creatively rearranged for the CD. The remarkable sounds that are produced - at once electronic and natural - are strange and mesmerizing. As Scherbaum writes, "The fault beats, the volcano whistles and howls, and the Earth rings and hums."

Scherbaum's website, "The Earth As Musical Instrument," discusses the relationship between music and seismology, and offers a short excerpt from the "Inner Earth" CD. The percussive, spectral structure of earthquake signals are typically rather boring, according to Scherbaum, showing acoustically interesting features only in unusual cases. Volcanoes, however, are another story. The spectrum of their tremor signals - believed to be generated by instabilities within the magma system - show regular frequency spacings similar to that of a flute. He has posted a sample signal from Mount Arenal in Costa Rica, transposed into the audible range for the human ear. You can hear how the frequency changes over time, in essence creating a melody.

Crudely stated, earthquakes are drums and volcanoes are flutes.

Other composers have taken a different approach to interpreting the musicality of the earth. Sonification is the process of translating any type of data into sound. Percussionist Marty Quinn collaborated with seismologists at the University of New Mexico to write "The Seismic Sonata," a sonic rendering of the 6.7 Northridge earthquake that struck southern California in 1994. Rather than use the actual sounds of the earth, Quinn mirrored the seismographic representation of the quake by mapping data values to a range of expressive sonic elements. The musical results are not as compelling as the source material used in the Scherbaum/Loos collaboration, however. Similarly, Italian composer Gabriele Rossetti and geologist Alessandro Montanari turned geologic data such as magnetic susceptibility, metallic ion concentrations and helium isotopes from the Italian Apennines into music titled "Balla Con La Terra" ("Dance with the Earth").

Brilliant Ideas For Using Free DJ Sound Effects

Are you a techno chick who wants to turn your bedroom into a dancing platform? Okay, it might not always be possible to do so; however do check out some of the interesting ways on how to use free DJ sound effects to make your websites, blogs and MySpace profile a dancing platform for your site visitors.

Looking for brilliant ideas for using free DJ sound effects? Help is here. You might have always wanted the heart-thumping track that you heard the other day from the club. Well, now you can have it and conveniently embed it into your website.

The trick to using free DJ sound effects is to get one that you can tweak and edit such that you can make your very own dance track. Since dance tracks usually consist of repetitions and mostly sound effects, it would be interesting if you are able to use your creative juices and make full use of the DJ sound effects to make your very own masterpiece.

What you can do is to first grab as many DJ sound effects as possible. You might have thoughts of using Kazaa or Limewire to illegally download these DJ sound effects, but my advice to you is not to do so. This is firstly because the illegal downloading of tracks is wrong, and that you are increasing your chances of getting in trouble with the law. Secondly, peer-2-peer (P2P) network sites, Kazaa and Limewire do not allow you to have a preview of the tracks and as such, you will have a hard time downloading the DJ sound effects that you are looking for.

So what you can so instead is to head on to royalty free music websites and download your DJ tracks or sound effects. The good thing about royalty free sound effects is that you will not have to worry about getting in trouble with the law. Unlike copyrighted tracks, these royalty free sound effects can be used many times over. You are the proud owner of these sound effects and as such use them as much as you like.

Use music editing software to make the necessary changes like looping and music cropping. Learn how to make full use of your music edit software to make the most out of these free DJ sound effects.

Upon creating your desired dance track, get ready and embed them into your very own blogs, websites and MySpace profile.

Be the groovy chick and awe everyone with your very own dance track!

A groovy chick will also need a groovy computer. So, what you can do is that with the very same sound effects that you have downloaded, use them on your computer's desktop. Listen to the computer jingle when an error messages pops up. Change the sounds when the computer starts up or when it shuts down. Change the way your computer looks and sounds!

Being someone who stands out sure doesn't hurt sometimes. It's time to bring your groove over to your blogs and websites and let the world know who is the grooviest chick in town!

Ray Barthell is an internet audio specialist providing royalty free music at http://downloadroyaltyfreemusic.net - Be sure to download free sound effects

Let the Music Play - Music in Hyderabad Pubs

That's right party people. If music is the food of love, then play on! Hyd knows how to party, and also knows its music. From lazy lounge to heart thumping electro techno, the DJs in clubs and pubs in Hyderabad spin it all. There's something for everyone. So if you're a music aficionado who knows the beat per minute of your favourite song, or just a regular party-hopper, you won't be disappointed.

But just to make it easier, we're giving you the lowdown on what type of music plays where; so you can pick and choose the party destination according to beats you want to swing to. Remember though, that a club may decide to play one or more of the genres below, so this is in no way a restrictive list. It's more of a guide to the popular joints in Hyd to dance to the different kinds of music we all love.

A- Alternative...Alternative Rock is not very groovy to dance to, so the only time you may hear bands like the Foo Fighters or Linkin Park play is if the place is playing Worldspace! But if you're really keen, pubs like 10 Downing Street (10 D) MAY just play some Alt rock, but ONLY during afternoons!

B- Bhangra...Bhangra has gone global and is a definite fixture in most club DJ sets. One can jump to Punjabi MC on Bollywood Nites in Bottles & Chimney (B &C), 10 D, Myst and sometimes even Ahala.

B-Bollywood...Get one thing straight. Bollywood remixes rock and we love them. So they're always going to be there. Almost every happening party will have some cool Bollywood remixes thrown in for some good ol' Desi flavor. Specialists are B&C and Ahala, especially on dedicated Bollywood nights.

C- Club...Club music is currently the rage of the Hyderabad night life. From sexy remixes of Justin Timberlake to hardcore Club legends like Benny Benassi, clubs such as Touch pump up the revelers with club tracks. Ahala is another cool place to check out some vibrant sounds.

D-Dance...Dance and Club are pretty similar, so the clubs that play the former would play Dance as well. Wednesday nights in Touch, Ahala, F Bar as well as other places such as Soul, Myst and Firangi Paani would be a good choice.

E-Electro...B&C and Liquids are known to play Techno every once in a while. But Electro is as popular as Dance/Club. Touch and Ahala also play Electro, but only a few electro tracks would be squeezed in, so don't count on a complete night of Electro!

H- Hip-hop...50 Cent, Kanye and other gangstas also make us jump, so the DJs in B&C, Firangi Paani and Ahala will play a good measure of some hip-hop to all you playas!

L - Lounge...Touch owns this genre. DJ Yogi will spin some cool lounge for all the party people every Saturday night, but it'll be during the beginning of the night. Later on, more energy is infused by playing primarily Club music. Ahala, Liquids (especially on Friday nights) and Sixth Element will also play some cool soothing Lounge music, ideal for an unwind session.

R- Rock... Rock can never die. So pubs like 10 Downing Street and Firangi Paani give you enough reason to drink another pint while the cool riffs of Pink Floyd, the Scorpions and Guns n Roses pipe through the speakers. Retro nights in 10 D are specially worth checking out, if you're a true "Rock star" at heart. Ahala and Touch will play remixes of rock tracks, but not pure rock as such.

So there you go. A complete guide to what's playing where to help you decide which pub to hop to this weekend!

Dancing with the Stars

The Professor was mad at me. We had agreed to meet at 8 pm to sign an important agreement. My delay led to postponement of the meeting.

"What in heaven's name happened to you?"

It was a mild reproach that nevertheless made me feel bad and reconfirmed my reluctance to have dinner with my TV producer friend who insisted on having the infernal screen on during the meal. Instead of serving dinner at a decent hour as he and his wife usually do, this time they had an important guest other than me. It was the usual mogul whose generous pockets would shortly finance one of my friend's TV ventures.

The meal was not bad except that the screen showed in all its misery that popular program "Dancing with the Stars"! I could not think of an excuse drastic enough to get up off the table and rush into the evening traffic. I suffered in silence.

"What was so terrible about having the program Dancing with the Stars as dinner background? " Asked the Professor.

"Well, for one thing, dancing is the wrong term. When you have a couple of great athletes that seemingly have been starched inside and out ,that move in spasms, gyrations, stiff turns and sequences with a minimum of grace and beauty, no great meal is going to reduce the pain and revulsion."

"Tell me more' he urged.

"Dance is or should be a blend of rhythm, beauty and music, not a gymnastic exhibition performed by dummies who believe that keeping a robot attitude, a stiff back and an artificial sense of coordinated motion, they are performing a dance!"

I paused for a moment and then declared:

"Our next president would do well to forbid these spectacles to take place. They are anti-American, attempt against the laws of inertial navigation, erode the sense of naturalness, equilibrium and grace of our youth and gives the US the image of a country that encourages its people to defy gravity and wear uncomfortable shoes!"

IT Asset Management - How Times Have Changed

When I was little I had a piggy bank complete with a requisite combination lock (needed to keep my younger brother from pilfering). Each week, on Friday night when I got my 50 cent allowance, I would lock myself in my bedroom, twist and turn the combination until I got it right and then I counted my prized stash of cash. I always knew exactly how much it would amount to, but I counted it nonetheless. My brother, on the other hand, never used his piggy bank; he put his quarters in his pockets and generally lost them within a few days.

Over time, I began to earn more money through babysitting and odd jobs, but the ritual never changed lock the door, open the safe and re-count my money. As I reflect, I think about the time I wasted re-counting my money but I also remember the delight I experienced each time as I dreamed and planned how to spend my dough! It would have been great to push a button and have a piggy bank statement printed at any time confirming that my money was where it should be and how much I had available. It would have been better still to earn piggy interest on my quarters! That would be real optimization!

These memories came flooding back to me when I was pondering the topic of IT Asset Management and how ineffectively some businesses track and manage PCs and other IT equipment. Demands for increased staff productivity and greater return on IT investments have pushed the need for better asset management and vital solutions.

Recently, I sat in the office of a large organization discussing this very subject with an IT manager. When I asked him if he had ever analyzed the use of software in his organization his reply was We dont really care if the software deployed on our standard image is used or not, its just easier to support if we give everyone all of the applications.

I shook my head; Ive heard this rational before, in fact, Ive used it myself in the past. What Ive learned since then has changed my way of thinking regarding costs and efficiencies.

Some IT managers believe that software licensing concerns are simplest to address by using a standard corporate image (a PC configured with standard software applications deployed to all users within the corporation). While it may seem simpler, one must ask what happens to standardization once that PC has been delivered to the end user? Ill tell you, in many organizations the end user immediately begins to alter the standard image to the point there is no longer any homogeny within the business assets.

My second question is this, why pay for software that isnt needed or used? Besides, why on earth would you continue to pay expensive maintenance on software that isnt beneficial to the company? Experts estimate that optimizing maintenance contracts can save a business from 5% to 15%. When was the last time you got a budget or salary increase in the 5-15% range?

According to The Gartner Group, enterprises that fail to integrate usage and inventory data to manage its software assets will overbuy licenses for 60% of their portfolio and still be non-compliant on 30%. With proper usage information, managers can make informed and more effective decisions about the needs of end users as well as the use of resources.

For example, one company recently monitored employee use of a particularly expensive software package. They discovered that, although the product was licensed and deployed to all users, only about 2/3 of the staff ever used it. In addition, it was discovered that an inexpensive emulator was a suitable replacement for all but the core power users. The results were savings of nearly a million dollars! I would say, certainly in this case, that end-user usage information can be very valuable to an IT manager. What's more, these are the types of savings that would make any CEO dance the rumba!

Additionally, Gartner experts estimate that up to 30% of an IT budget could be saved by effective IT asset management. Further, that 70% of organizations have a 30% discrepancy between planned and actual IT inventory. Ouch that hurts! Why not use that 30% to increase budgets for training, salaries, upgrades and new projects?

Besides software licensing and maintenance agreement savings, there are a host of additional benefits stemming from successful IT asset management. Every IT manager would benefit from saving time and effort expended planning for technology upgrades of any size. For years, most of us have tracked our assets in a spreadsheet, desperately hoping that it contained fairly accurate information.

When it came time to prepare for an upgrade, usually the low man on the totem pole (or an outside temp) was tasked with verifying the accuracy of the spreadsheet data. This method generally entailed walking from machine to machine checking against a list of criteria. The entire endeavor was painfully slow, dreadfully inaccurate and miserably inefficient, but hey - great exercise for the temp!

Once the data was gathered, a manual method was used to determine which machines needed what hardware and software. Once that task was completed one could price out the upgrades, prepare a budget for management approval and hope there wasnt noticeable margin of error. Yea, sure better add 10% just in case!

I really like living in the new millennium, the whole exercise of gathering data on IT assets has been revolutionized. Now, in a matter of a few mouse clicks, a good asset management application can provide up to the minute information needed to plan for an upgrade. Not only can these tools provide information on hardware, but also software versions, patches, etc. Having accurate data available in a dynamic system proves to be a huge forecasting timesaver and can also be used, among other things, to reduce virus incidents by identifying systems that are at risk. Besides planning for upgrades, simply keeping track of assets that seem to forever grow legs and walk away on their own can be a daunting task.

Another bright spot for IT managers who use asset management tools effectively is improved efficiency at the help desk. IDC reported that downtime can be reduced by 10% and person hours on recovery can be reduced by 22% for businesses that practice good asset management. I read another figure that touted a 25% reduction in average help desk call time. This enables the closing of more trouble tickets per day and gets end users back to work faster.

I certainly remember the days when a help desk call started out with questions such as What type of PC do you have? What version of Windows are you running? Did you install anything new recently? And if youre laughing now, its because you know the answer is always NO! I havent installed anything! End users never admit to installing or doing something that could have possibly caused their system to misbehave!

With todays tools, support staff can easily view hardware and software configurations without any end user interaction thus saving time on each and every support call. Having this IT x-ray vision debunks the myth that standard images are easier to support because a standard image generally fails to remain standard after deployment. Being able to see what has happened to morph that PC really does make support easier and faster!

Secondly, most good tools will provide a history or a change flag that can clearly identify what software changes have been made that might have triggered the problem. This feature can also be enlisted to enforce policies prohibiting users from installing unauthorized software onto their assigned systems. In the event of serious troubles, these records can provide valuable forensic evidence.

Moreover, good asset management tools and techniques can actually prevent the need for a support call in the first place by allowing for proactive PC management. If a flaw or vulnerability is identified in a particular software version, those affected PCs can easily be identified, isolated and a fix or patch pushed out before the problem erupts.

This proactive approach certainly beats the tar out of the old fashioned method of grab a disk and run when a caller reports a system failure. And it truly beats hearing the words its going to be a long night, better order in dinner, weve got to touch every machine before we can go home. How many pizza dinners in a row can your digestive system actually tolerate?

In general, businesses will see significant benefit from using an efficient asset management tool (in addition to an effective underlying process) in the areas of software licensing, maintenance costs, lease and contract management, support and help desk efficiencies, reduction in vulnerabilities and even with asset disposal concerns. (See my earlier article regarding IT asset disposal for a list of those worries!)

To get the most out of an asset management tool, carefully research the array of products available. Dont be penny wise and pound foolish by merely selecting the least expensive or most widely recognized products. Every IT environment is unique and requires tools that can adapt to, or blend with, those specific needs.

To get started on the selection process, create a company-wide team to evaluate asset management tools. Enlist the input from each department that has any role in relation to IT assets. The team should include members from finance, purchasing, accounting, IT, security, training, risk management, etc.

A good tool can and should help manage assets throughout the entire lifecycle cradle to grave. Consider what tool features would make it easier, faster and more accurate to budget, purchase, receive, deliver, upgrade, support, use and retire an IT asset. Once your team is in place, create a list of the top 25 features and benefits desired in a tool. Create a list of tool vendors offering products that meet your criteria and arrange for an on-site demo of the product for the whole team (not just IT).

At this point, hopefully, between face to face meetings with the vendor, the demo, addressing compatibility issues and pricing options, a short list of tools will emerge. Arrange for an on-site evaluation of at least two, perhaps three of the preferred tools. Assign specific roles to each team member in the evaluation process to ensure that all functions are fully experienced.

Once a tool has been selected, dont dare cheap out on training! At least one, preferably two, staff members should receive thorough training on the use and support of the product. Consider hiring an experienced professional to install, configure and document the program. Lost time due to inexperienced staff struggling to learn a product can quickly sabotage any project. Further, an experienced professional will be able to optimize the tool configuration and reporting functions.

An asset management tool can be a costly investment for any organization, but one which if installed properly and used efficiently, will provide for reduced cost of ownership for IT assets and such tools generally provide a positive return on investment within 12-24 months as well. When you add the benefits of increased staff efficiency and reduction of risk into the mix, the justifications for the expense will be well founded.

What is being done to manage IT assets in your organization? Are you continually tossing your IT budget dollars into metaphorical pockets or are you keeping accurate tabs on those valuables? Moreover, what has been done to not only track and manage the IT assets, but to optimize the return on those investments?
