Customer Review: vocables in unison with jazz piano - nice!
Nice jazz outing! Often, Tania sings the melody line with vocables in unison with the piano an octave or two higher. She phrases her voice melodies like any other wind instrument, say, sax or flute. There are no lyrics and no "solos," scatting or instrumental. She and her small group get a groove going - maybe funky, maybe bluesy, maybe a bit of swing, maybe a bit of bossa feel - then sings/plays a catchy melody on top. It would be classified as a jazz recording, the "Brazil feel" comes out a bit but is not predominant composition, arrangement, or performance. Very nice music.
Customer Review: DON'T judge this album by it's COVER !
I was just scanning brazilian jass stuff one day and came upon TM by accident.WOW.At the price, I could take a chance and glad I did. This woman does not scat (if that is the right term) like Bobby Mc Ferrin---who is so obviously making crazy sounds that only embarrass me at times.......ha !Tania Maria's voice IS another insturment !Jazzy/and slightly funky...... she will MAKE you like brazilian music !

You're learning guitar because you want to play on your guitar your favorite music, and
you want to enjoy the feeling of drawing out of your guitar those enticing sounds.

And you want to learn to play your guitar in an optimum way, so you'll awaken the
admiration of everybody listening to you.

And you can achieve your goals, when you take into account a few and very important
concepts, specially when you are self-teaching.

I won't tell you that they are easy. I'll tell you that you can definitively do them,
just putting will and work. Like everything deserved in life.

Let's go through them.

Attitude: It is the main thing you must have in mind. I'm talking here about a strong and
decided state of mind and body that puts you on the track of all the effort needed to meet your goals. Without hard work you won't get anything great in life. You won't even be a fair guitar player.

Listen in a different way: Until now most likely you listened just to enjoy it. From now
on, you'll listen music to enjoy it and learn from it. You'll listen trying to find out how
the player is playing every specific part of the piece; what is the player intending to
give; what difficulties is the player encountering, and how is he/she going through them;
how would you like to have that part played.

Practice daily: Yes! Practice daily! Not less than two hours a day (one in the morning,
and one in the afternoon, evening or night). I told you that it would be hard.

Practice efficiently: During the time segments you assigned to practicing, do just that.
Practice. Practice the lessons, exercises, scales, chords, pieces you must practice. Be
clearly sincere with yourself. Don't fool yourself, thinking that you are doing your
practice when you're only playing something you like to play and not what you must play.

Play with others: Whenever possible, specially when you have reached a playing knowledge
and skills (and it isn't required very much), play sometimes with other guitar players.

You'll be surprised about how much you can learn.

Look for a teacher: Yes. Look for a teacher. If you are learning to play guitar on your
own, there'll be a time when you'll need the guidance and advices of a guitar teacher.

There are many things than cannot be written and read. They must be shown and explained
over the guitar itself. And I guarantee you that you'll be amazed about what you will
learn.

Remember. Attitude, change your listening habits, practice daily and efficiently, play
with others whenever possible, and have a teacher to make your knowledge perfect.

There's no mystery in learning to play the guitar, but though rewarding it's a way of
hard work.

Take it like that, and you'll become a very good guitar player.

Yellow

Re-release of this Excellent Pop Single from UK Outfit, Coldplay.
Customer Review: The Weakest Single off of "Parachutes"
"Yellow" is the song that got Coldplay the attention of US audiences, and while it is a good song for sure, it is surely not the best that Coldplay offers on "Parachutes", their debut album which features "Yellow". This CD offers "Yellow" and 2 additonal tracks: "Help Is Around the Corner" is a short (2'34) throwaway with Chris Martin on accoustic guitar that has the feeling of "Hey Chris, we need a track for the single, can you make up something quickly?" "No More Keeping My Feet Off the Ground" is taken from Coldplay's first (independent) release, the EP "Safety" (April 1998), and gives a great insight on how much the band has matured since then. It is the best song on this CD, but the sound is somewhat muffled, yet it shows the band at its intruiging origins. Bottom line: for Coldplay completists only.... If you're looking for Coldplay singles, go instead for "Shiver" or "The Blue Room EP" (see my reviews there)
Customer Review: inspiring
"yellow" is an awesome song to a person who believes in a loving GOD

While many carry the artist title because they are part of the music industry, very few can actually pretend to be entitled to the golden crown that makes them real artists.

As far as I can look back, music has always been full part of my life. Growing up with classical music with some openings towards jazz and pop music, I have extended my interest to black music including gospel, soul, blues, and of course, hip hop. I am usually open minded about music, as long as it pleases my ear. However, I am very picky when it comes to define somebody as a real artist. Only the Great who influenced music history deserve to be classified as real artists.

Johann Sebastian Bach is one of those real musicians. His music is an example of hard work. His incessant quest for perfection and harmony characterizes his music. Among the Great, you can count people like John Lennon, Ray Charles, Duke Ellington , James Brown, Eazy E, Nas-and yes- Eminem, whatever his haters might have to object. (This list of artists I mentioned here, is of course, non exhaustive)

Despite the fact RIP Proof was less known from the public than other famous artists, he had all the qualities that make a real artist.

So what is the definition of a real artist?

A real artist, a plain artist is a person who makes music for the love of it, not for the money only, even if he is perfectly conscious that he has a family to feed. A true artist must be inspirational to the listeners. Whatever his message is, people must be able to feel the music and to acknowledge the feelings expressed through the voice, lyrics and instrumentals.

A true artist usually has high requirements regarding the quality of his beats, instrumentals and recorded voice. Never satisfied with himself, he keeps working hard over the years in order to satisfy his public.

A true artist will always put his passion for the music, the will of sharing it and to satisfy his audience before the material aspect of the show biz.

A true artist definitely manages to generate a genuine enthusiasm among his audience.

While being on stage, he becomes the music. He and the audience are one and thats the full beauty of the musical fusion created by dedicated artists and a very receptive audience.

When you hear the song, you must be able to feel the artists feelings and to forget about yourself, because during such moments, there is only place left for the music. Yes, this can happen if the artist is a real, dedicated person towards his art.

When you heard a person like James Brown tell their audience: I feel so good I wanna screeeeaaam, you perfectly know that his words werent made up. There is a wonderful chemistry between such artists and the public. Good vibes are in the air and they penetrate into the mesmerized audiences.

Real artists usually stay humble in front of other great artists. Not only do they possess a good musical culture, but they will never mind quoting other legends. I heard James Brown paying homage to Ray Charles, for instance. So did Nas.

I do consider Eminem as a plain artist, because he changed the face of the rap game. He dared to use different themes than the usual themes used in hip hop and proved to be an astute word acrobat, playing with syllables and foolishly putting words together that you would never see side by side in real life. Moreover, his music touched a lot of people from different backgrounds all over the world.

RIP Proof never failed in naming big influences of his like Kurt Cobain, Jerry Garcia and John Lennon numerous times. One can consider D12 s Proof as a rhyming genius too. He had an amazing sense of realness and more importantly, a great passion for hip hop that wont die away since his
murder on April the 11th, 2006.

The Great in the music have the power to influence generations and usually make history. Even their deaths will never erase their contribution to the music history.

Entire artists are the ones who deserve your respect, because you know, deep inside of you, that they are the ones who live and breathe the music for your ears greatest pleasure. Only those guys will live on through their music over the centuries.

NEW MUSIC MONTHLY July 2001 Coldplay cover, Placebo

COLDPLAY cover, Placebo & Air articles *comes with a CD

Although Lisa Marie has managed to keep her children protected from the spotlight, she has recently gone public with her own musical work.

Lisa has not chosen to go the route of acting at this time. However, she has gone public with several press releases and appearances on news programs. I was able to catch an episode of Primetime Live, which featured Lisa Marie Presley for a full segment.

The news commentator interviewed Lisa and asked her many questions about her life and her past. One of the things they did was show side-by-side film footage of Lisa Marie performing, alongside her father, Elvis Presley. The two performances were at least 25 years apart, in time, but were spliced together to view Elvis and Lisa singing and dancing to show similarities.

Although Lisa is unique in her own right, there are many uncanny similarities between her and her father. Let's face it, it's only natural for this to happen. And we love it!

The Way Lisa holds a microphone and moves around and gazes at the camera are strikingly similar to the way Elvis would sing and dance, and sneer at the camera himself. Lisa Marie Presley is undoubtedly very talented and has decided to reflect her talent publicly at this time. The video chosen to display Lisa Marie's singing ability was the main track from her new CD, To Whom It May Concern. The main track is titled Lights Out.

In fact, the film clip from the video, Lights Out, was the clip shown next to the film footage of her father, taken from Elvis' 1968 Comeback Special, featuring him in his black leather outfit.

Although Lisa was not dressed in black leather, her clothes were flashy, and her whole aura reflected that of Elvis Presley.

I think that even though much of the major public are not all that crazy about Elvis impersonator's, the music industry, and Elvis fans alike, are really craving an entertaining personality with the talent and charisma of Elvis Presley.

I believe that even though much of Lisa Marie's facial expressions, moves, and natural looks are very close to her father Elvis, the people are going to accept this because not only are these features completely natural, they are expected of any offspring of Elvis Presley.

Lisa Marie's personality, the words she chooses to use, her facial expressions, especially the way she would raise one eyebrow up, open her eyes wide, and gaze at the camera when pleasantly making a joke out of a statement, was especially reminiscent of her father but also very refreshing.

During a very intimate portion of the interview, Lisa Marie stated that she has had some experience with drug use. However, she went on to clarify that she now lives a pretty clean life, for the most part. She shared stories about her past marriages, her children, her mother Priscilla, and memories of her father, Elvis.

Primetime Live also showed some home movies of Elvis, Priscilla, and Lisa Marie in their home environment with Elvis spending time with his family, and playing games with them. As Lisa sat there watching it along with everyone else, her facial expression began to change from perhaps having her guard up and being ready for difficult personal questions, to one of gentle, sweet, memories and peace.

It is certainly very sad that Lisa had to lose her father so early in her life. She seemed to go through things in her life that reflected the pain and difficulty she experienced with losing her father so soon.

With all the difficult times in Lisa's life, along with the good times, she has come a long way personally and professionally.

Lisa did comment on her marriage to Michael Jackson, but didn't spend much time on the subject. She spent more time talking about her relationship and marriage with her first husband, Danny Keough. This is the first marriage during which Lisa had a child. Danny Keough also became a member of Lisa's band in 2004.

While Lisa was in her late teens, and early twenties, she was managed by Jerry Schilling. Mr. Schilling is one of the original members of the Memphis Mafia, who went on to accomplish a successful business career in show biz after Elvis died.

A piece of trivia that would be interesting to all. Lisa Marie Presley's children provided backup vocals for her on her recent CD titled, To Whom It May Concern.

Play Drums with " Coldplay "

Currently there is a Bill on the floor of the Legislation scheduled for March 4 agenda proposed by Senator Constantine that mandates PE for 225 minutes weekly for grades 6 - 8. While the intent of the bill is to make Florida students active and healthy, the bill has major "unintended consequences". Bill S0610 intention is to "recognize good nutrition and regular physical activity affects the health and well-being of students" it has no source of funding for the new physical education classes or funding for the additional nutrition guidelines of the bill. This in effect means that each school board will need cut programs in order to achieve these state mandated guidelines.

By mandating the 225 minutes of physical education a week the opportunity for music education at the grade level of 6 - 8 will be eliminated. The long-standing and well document positive effects of musical education streamlined with core educational framework have been recognized by The U.S. Department of Education. They state, "Many colleges view participation in the arts and music as valuable experience that broadens students' understanding and appreciation of the world around them." In addition, it plays a part in developing "children's intellectual development."

It is documented by College Entrance Examination Board that "students taking courses in music performance and music appreciation scored higher in the SAT than students with no arts participation. Music performance students scored 53 points higher on the verbal and 39 points higher on the math. Music appreciation students scored 61 points higher on the verbal and 42 points higher on the math." (Source: 1999 College-Bound Seniors National Report: Profile of SAT Program Test Takers, The College Entrance Examination Board, Princeton, New Jersey).

The U.S. Secretary of Education concludes, "I believe arts education in music, theater, dance and the visual arts is one of the most creative ways we have to find the gold that is buried just beneath the surface." Even the U.S. Secretary of Education believes that music and arts are valuable in the curriculum. He was quoted as saying "They (children) have an enthusiasm for life, a spark of creativity, and vivid imaginations that need training...training that prepares them to become confident young men and women. As I visit schools around the country I see a renewed interest in arts education and a growing concern about the negative impact of cutting art and music out of curriculum. The creativity of the arts and the joy of music should be central to the education of every American child." (Source: Richard W. Riley, U.S. Secretary of Education

Senator Carlton of the Senate's Committee on Education reported in her newsletter the following statement, "We want to make sure our students have every opportunity to succeed... The important thing is that our students have options." This bill effectively removes all option for participation in music programs.

The central idea of the Bill is something that most will whole heartedly agree with. However, as it is currently worded and un funded, the price tag of the "untended consequences" is too high. Elimination of music has a negative impact that is unacceptable according to the U.S. Department of Education and should be unacceptable to the citizens of Florida. At the time of release Members of the Senate Education Committee, Senator Constantine, Representative Weatherford, and the Governor's Office had not replied back with the option of making a comment on the issue. I urge Floridians to Speak Out and Voice Your Opinion. Don't allow the Florida Legislature make the wrong decision for our students.

Bright blessings,

Video Explosion

Customer Review: Menudo Mania!
I am so glad I found this DVD! I am a Menudo fan from way back but grew up in the Midwest. Not much Menudo merchandise was available so at this time in my life I am playing catch up. This DVD IS a must, must have for any Menudo fan. I would even suggest it to fans of Ricky Martin who discovered him after he left the group...especially those who discovered him after the Grammys. If you never had a chance to see this group in concert, buy this DVD! Seeing Ricky Martin at age 14 is like going down memory lane. Its amazing seeing the stage presence and star power he had at such a young age. It become obvious that he was a super star in the making and just the cutest thing on the planet! Its also interesting seeing Robby Rosa (now going by Draco Rosa, singer/songwriter/producer) back then. You could see that he was a talented artist in the making as well. Its also amazing to see how much he has changed since the 80's. This concert DVD is fun and it will put a smile on your face from begining to end!

I always hear people go on and on and on about The Beatles, but let's face it - they were no Menudo!

If you have every seen High School Musical then you most certainly know the name Ashley Tisdale. Ashley Tisdale plays the popular character Sharpay Evans who is one girl who always seems to want what she can't have. Born on July 2, 1985, she grew up knowing that she wanted to be an actress and a singer. Her first "big break" was when Ashley Tisdale was only three years old. Discovered by Bill Perlman, she started doing commercials which led her to star on Broadway in Les Miserables and later in the international tour of Annie.

Ashley Tisdale has known nothing but acting and singing and even sang at the white house when she was only 12 years old. It was that year that she started to make her way onto television where she had small parts on some popular television shows. It was in 2005 that Ashley Tisdale got her big break when she signed onto to the show "The Suite Life of Zack and Cody" which is a hugely popular Disney show. Disney knew they had someone special on their hands and immediately went about casting her for High School Musical. Of course the movie was a huge success and catapulted Ashley Tisdale, along with the rest of the cast, into instant stardom.

Acting wasn't enough for Ashley Tisdale though, and she decided that after her songs from High School Musical did so well on the charts that she was going to put out her own debut album. On February of 2007, "Headstrong" her first album debuted.

Currently she is involved in the making of High School Musical 3 Ringtones but has many more plans for the future after High School Musical 3 is completed. Ashley Tisdale wants to concentrate on her music as well and hopes to come out with a second album sometime in the near future.

Jeff Simms runs a High School Musical 3 Ringtones website and a blog dedicated to HSM 3.
