Esperanza

"Esperanza," bassist/vocalist/composer Esperanza Spalding's debut on Heads Up International, is set for worldwide release on May 20, 2008. Armed with uncanny instrumental chops, a siren voice that spans three languages, and composing and arranging skills that weave together the best elements of the old-school with the progressive, this 23-year-old has crafted a debut album that takes a completely fresh and refreshing approach to jazz by borrowing from the rich traditions of soul, pop, world music and so much more.

Esperanza is joined in the studio by a crew of A-list session players, including flamenco guitar virtuoso Niño Josele, percussionist Jamey Haddad, drummer Horacio "El Negro" Hernández, saxophonist Donald Harrison and several other seasoned talents - all of whom collectively serve as further evidence of the kind of creative energy and magnetism that she radiates.
Customer Review: Can't get it out of my head
I'm no musician and cetainly no jazz expert. I just love beautiful, interesting, melodious music. This album took my breath away. Every time that I listen to it, I hear something new that catches my ear. The album seems to be packed with talent, but that combination of voice and bass is something else altogether.
Customer Review: Pure Talent
Ms Spalding is an incredible talent. She has been blessed with both an amazing musical ability and is already an accomplished college instructor. Take advantage of the opportunity to see her perform if she happens into your area.

Two-time professional champion of ABC's hit television show "Dancing With The Stars," Julianne Hough has recently begun focusing on yet another talent - singing.

On May 20, Hough released her self-titled debut album of country music. In the spirit of something her most infamous critics Carrie Anne, Len and Bruno (the judges from the show that made her famous) might say, Hough's debut is very good but there is always some room for improvement.

The best track on the album is probably the first single, "That Song In My Head," which has all the qualities of a fun and catchy tune. Two other songs that really seem to stand out are "My Hallelujah Song" and "About Life" for their sweet vocals and notable themes respectively.

The majority of the tracks fall into what a typical music fan might consider the average to slightly above average category. But, the songs "You, You, You" and "Jimmy Ray McGee" are two examples works that seem either overdone or lacking originality and show the existence of the aforementioned "room for improvement".

Overall, Hough's is something of a breath of fresh air. In an industry that glorifies promiscuity and materialism, she is a complete change of pace. Her debut album gives the music world a refreshing taste of a wholesome and classic country style. And, if she keeps working at it, she could make quite a name for herself as a musician similar to how she has already done so with her skills on the dance floor.

I'd recommend this record to anyone who is more than just a casual country music fan with a passing interest.

Customer Review: What a surprise!
I live in Austin where Speer plays most often. My wife works with his bass player (he's part time). When he gave her Speer's CD, she gave it to me. I have to admit I let it sit around for a while because I thought it would turn out to be some lame high school band whose dad had enough money to give them to do a CD. Man, was I wrong. This CD is great! If you like the bands the other reviewer mentioned you *will* like this. Since piano dominates most of the songs, I have to say they also remind me of Ben Folds Five. I especially like "Soak The Radio." Enjoy!
Customer Review: This is what I have been waiting for!!!!
This CD rocks. The vocalist James Speer has amazing range and melodies. He is a cross between Jeff Buckley and Peter Gabriel. The music itself is captivating! There are great dynamics from beggining to end. It's almost like a soundtrack. The hits are all over this CD, but the ones that really stand out are 'Blue Bowl', 'View', and 'Already gone'. The rest of the tracks are just as powerful and I keep finding a new favorite every time I listen to the CD. I don't know where this guy came from but I hope to see more material. I went by his website, WWW.SPEERMUSIC.COM, and found that he is only playing in Austin, Tx. I hope that he will go on tour soon. I highly recommend this album if you like the folling artists: COLDPLAY, DAVE MATTHEWS, COUNTING CROWS, PETER GABRIEL, DAVID GRAY, JEFF BUCKLEY, STING

Theater, I think, is probably the most understated area of the Arts. So much these days is on the big screen and DVD's now that maybe we have forgotten just what amazing writing and acting actually takes place each day on the stage.

There are some amazing stage shows, most start off in London and then tour the country, some run for a period of time and then come back again a few years later just as good and just as popular.

I remember my first theater experience being a pantonmine... ok, this is in a different category to other brilliant shows but I thoroughly enjoyed it as do most children... but unlike most children nowadays I have continued to go to the theater having seen some fabulous stage shows.

I really do think that as children grow they should be exposed more to the theatre, everyone has different tastes, I personally enjoy musicals, others enjoy the serious and dark but lets all try to experience more of them.

I have seen Saturday Night Fever in London, Oliver, Tommy... don't want to bore with a list of all the rest but I have thoroughly enjoyed every one.

I would love to take my daughter to see The Lion King, I would like her to have a good first experience at the theatre and I have heard good things about it.

I want to see Dirty Dancing, I have heard mixed reviews on this one, some say the film is better others have really liked it... now I am a huge fan of the film and although I don't want to ruin my opinion of the film I would like the opportunity to decide for myself so this, I think will be my next ticket purchase.

Whatever your taste in theatre, remember to go, take your kids and enjoy the writing talent that is out there.

If you want to see a huge range of theatre tickets just come to
http://www.bagaticket.com/category.php?c=588&iListOffset=0

There are literally 100 pages of theatre tickets to choose from so you really will find a show that suits your taste.

I run this online ticket sales web site - http://www.bagaticket.com to not only bring you a great choice of theatre tickets but also a huge selection of comedy, music & sports tickets too... we are also starting theme parks tickets! We will be adding to our site so please make sure you come back and check on us!

Customer Review: Rosetta Stone V3-Spanish (Latin America) Level 1,2,3
I purchased this for my college-aged daughter so that she could become proficient in Spanish. This has given her the practice she needs that the classroom (high school) did not.
Customer Review: Great Addition to School Learned Spanish
I took 17 hours of Spanish during my undergraduate degree, but could not speak Spanish. I could read Spanish, but I could not understand it when spoken. Rosetta Stone takes a different approach to teaching Spanish than my university. It has made understanding and speaking Spanish within my reach. I had a strong vocabulary base, but Rosetta Stone has helped me to be able to speak and use this vocabulary in everyday conversation. This is a great complement to any Spanish curriculum. It is a wonderful option for those who couldn't learn Spanish "the old fashion way."

Almost everyone would agree that the most common question that dancers ask potential partners at swing club functions is: "would you like to dance?" This straightforward question is asked hundreds of times an evening and usually, after a brief conversation, the smiling couple walks to the dance floor where the "leader" leads and the "follower" follows. It is understood that when the male dancer determines which moves are the most appropriate to lead his partner, he must factor in her experience level, the tempo of the music and the space available to him on the dance floor; however, there is another implied, yet unspoken, consideration that makes his selection even more challenging, and surprisingly, it is not for his lack of taking sufficient dance lessons!

When the D.J. begins spinning, most dancers around the room move effortlessly into their patterns, but for one leader this moment is "crunch time" because at the last second, just before he transitions his partner into the open position with his planned "Tuck and Turn," she urgently mentions her bad rotator cuff and asks him not to raise her right arm above her head. Whew, the male dancer thinks, I knew there was a reason that the clubs always teach the "Glideaway!" Having successfully dodged that bullet and moved his partner into the open position, he decides to lead her into a neck wrap using either a traditional, two-hand tuck entry, or a modified "Sweetheart Wrap" entry where, before he turns her, he may circle his left hand (holding her right hand) in front of her head at neck level to minimize any stress on her right shoulder. Great idea he muses as he opts for the latter entry; however, his self-congratulations are short lived because after he picks up a two-hand lead and he begins to rotate her around clockwise into the wrap, his partner balks at his lead and informs him that she recently sprained her neck and to please be gentle.

Without missing a beat the male dancer deftly continues around behind her and exits the move holding her right hand again in the open position. While executing a couple of "patty-cakes" to contemplate his next move, our hero suspects that his partner is protective of her left wrist which she casually confirms moments later by telling him about her recent diagnosis of carpal tunnel, caused by her long hours at work as a computer programmer. "I'd rather dance than work any day wouldn't you?" she asks cheerfully. "It's great exercise and it really increases your range of movement!" He agrees and compliments his partner on her great footwork and enthusiasm, and then he leads her into a benign, waist level pass-by which worked great; that is, great until her casual reference to the knee that she twisted recently playing volleyball and her not so subtle request for him to avoid leading her into moves like the 'last one' that caused her to lean forward which aggravates the pain in her lower back.

Wanting very much for his partner to enjoy their dance and being sensitive to her temporary physical limitations, the male dancer decides that it is time for him to really play it safe, so he leads her into a comfortable "Basic Return" followed by a "Caught-in-the-Cage." Both of these moves worked perfectly: when he led her return into the closed position, her right hand was positioned at waist level, and when he rotated her back-and-forth within her "cage" she was able to stand up straight. The male dancer executed a few more carefully considered moves and then he led his partner back into the closed position feeling confident that he had protected her as much as possible from any pain. After he quickly dismissed the thought that his hand "flip-flopping" on her upper back during the "Caught-in-the-Cage" would have any impact whatsoever on her lower back pain, he smiled and instinctively knew at that moment that he was improving as a dancer by becoming a better leader!

As the music ended, the male dancer avoided any concluding embellishments like a "dip" and he simply led his partner into their final steps together in the closed position. Afterwards, she graciously thanked him for the wonderful dance and, while they threaded their way across the crowded floor towards her table, he reflected upon the valuable lesson their dance had taught him. He used to think that music tempo and dance floor space coupled with his partner's experience determined which swing moves to lead, now he realized that he also needed to consider their physiological impact. When he seated her, she asked him what he thought of her favorite line dances: the Electric Slide and Swamp Thing. Ordinarily, he would be very unenthusiastic about these two dances; however, live and learn! Grateful for his new insights from their enjoyable dance together, he looked at her with appreciation and then he surprised himself by answering her question without even a blink of an eye: "I haven't learned these popular dances yet but they certainly look like a lot of fun. I'll bet they really give you that welcome freedom of unrestrained movement and expression don't they!"

LP RhythMix Mini Bongos

Our Rythmic Bongos are two-headed drums that produce hearty, authentic sound. They stand 6" tall, with 4" and 5" diameter sturdy synthetic heads - like two drums in one! Includes a musical activity booklet. Ages 2 and up.
Customer Review: Not easy to play with bare hands and too pricey*, but not all bad
Trying to play these myself, I have to play pretty forcefully to get a decent pitch. It's not nearly as easy to play as a better quality, non-toy version of bongos, but then, it's a whole lot sturdier than a quality wood & skin drum. The colors are vibrant and very appealing. These have withstood the abuses heaped on them by my kids from their toddler through preschooler years, and still look great. Buy a pair of mallets or drumsticks to go with these: it makes it a whole lot easier to play, and gives children more immediate gratification. *The "too pricey" comment was made when these were retailing at $35. The new list price of $20 seems much more reasonable, and a real bargain at the sale price of $13.99!

One of the greatest things you can do for your body is to dance to the cadence of pleasing music. Many scientific studies have shown that dance can improve your outlook on life and prevent depression and anxiety. Indeed, those who dance quite a bit have fewer injuries, stronger muscles and stay lean and trim. Staying in shape, improving your physical and mental health and taking off unnecessary weight is very wise. So, why is it that more people do not partake of the sport of dance?

Many people have fragile egos and low self-esteem and keeping rhythm to dance is not so easy for many folks. It takes practice and perhaps even dancing lessons. Some folks do not wish to take dance lessons because it makes them feel silly, of course, everyone has to start somewhere and it's a lot sillier to be unhappy and overweight and do not nothing about it. That makes no sense at all. So, where can one start?

Probably the best place to start is to consider what type of music you like best and figure out where they play that music and see if you fit into that group of people. Every city has various dancing clubs and you can either look them up online or peruse the "what's happening" section of your local newspaper. I think what you'll soon find is that there are many choices and options. Thus you can pick what's best for your style, level of skill and attitude and you'll "feel like dancing, dancing, dance the night away!" It's time to get thin and find yourself as a healthier and happier you.
